Juke Joint Duo at 2009 Freedom Creek Festival

Posted on February 28, 2011June 5, 2017 by Max Shores

I shot these videos back in 2009 at the Freedom Creek Festival in Old Memphis, Alabama. They feature Cedric Burnside and Lightnin Malcolm on the stage. They have been called the Juke Joint Duo and the Two Man Wrecking Crew. They sure do make some fine music.

Cedric Burnside and Lightnin’ Malcolm coax folks to the stage at the 2009 Freedom Creek Blues Festival in Old Memphis, Alabama. Cedric is the grandson of R. L. Burnside and played drums with him. Malcolm is originally from Missouri but has lived in the Mississippi Hill Country for many years. The Freedom Creek Blues Festival was founded by the late bluesman Willie King and takes place in rural Pickens County Alabama.

Tribute to the late bluesman R. L. Burnside by his grandson Cedric who played drums with him for many years. Lightnin’ Malcolm also played with R. L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough and many other blues artists from the hill country of Mississippi. The annual Freedom Creek Blues Festival was founded by the late Alabama bluesman Willie King and continues in his memory in rural Pickens County Alabama.
