The funniest 30 minutes in Alabama and Auburn football coverage.

The football rivalry between the University of Alabama and Auburn University culminates in the Iron Bowl each year but it is talked about all over the state year-round. A new series coming to Alabama Public Television pokes fun at all the talk.

The Iron Bowl Hour is a thirty minute weekly series which will premiere on Thursday, August 29th at 10:30 p.m. It will air again each Thursday through the football season. Program hosts, Will and Reed Lochamy are the creators of “Oh Brother,” a weekly radio show on Birmingham Mountain Radio. They are also avid football fans, but The Iron Bowl Hour is different from other discussions of football. Each show features former Alabama and Auburn football players, coaches, and media personalities in interviews which make light of the rivalry between the two teams.

Portions of each program are based at Vulcan Park in Birmingham where a large statue is testament to the importance of the iron industry in Alabama’s history. The annual game between Auburn and the University of Alabama took place in Birmingham’s Legion Field for many years and came to be called the Iron Bowl because Birmingham was known for its iron production.

The Iron Bowl Hour is a comedy show. You really have to see it to understand, so here’s a sample:

The Iron Bowl Hour is produced by the University of Alabama Center for Public Television, but pokes fun at both teams equally. It has been airing on the University’s TV stations WVUA-7 and WUOA-23 for two years. Distribution on Alabama Public Television’s nine station network will bring the show to new viewers who can join in the fun each week.
